Birmingham City University
Organised, Curated and Designed the Birmingham City Illustration Degree Show Catalogue 2019. My role involved collating the student artwork, fundraising, approaching various printing companies, ensuring the project ran to schedule and creating the final design. We wanted to create a unique catalogue design that would make our course stand out and leave a lasting impression. We came up with the idea of a booklet of perforated 'postcards' so that each students work could be removed individually, meaning that the catalogue could become more than a static object. Settling on a minimalist, contemporary design that would compliment the various styles of illustration on our course, we utilised blank space and a black and white colour palette. We encountered a few issues including the cost of printing, binding styles and number of pages but we successfully dealt with every problem and delivered a clean and professional catalogue. We also managed and ran the accompanying Instagram account (@bcuillustration2019) writing copy, creating content and ensuring the posts were on time.
